WHAT:
The Division
of Criminal Justice will hold “Justice
for All: Investigating and Prosecuting
Crimes Against People with Disabilities,”
a three-day training conference for
law enforcement officers in Northern
New Jersey. The training, the first
ever of its kind in New Jersey, will
offer a comprehensive system of strategies
for assisting victims with mental illness,
physical and/or developmental disabilities
within the criminal justice system.
More than 70 attendees will participate
in the conference. The goal of the training
is to increase the collaboration and
dialogue between law enforcement and
people with disabilities, enhance awareness
of prevalence in crimes committed against
persons with disabilities and teach
law enforcement officers to conduct
effective criminal investigations into
suspected sexual assault cases involving
persons with disabilities.
